Up the Apples and Pears

As the more astute of you may have noticed, we slightly over cooked our stewed fruit today.  And when I say slightly overcooked, what I mean is, burnt.  Not a ‘leaves a nasty taste in your mouth afterwards’ kind of burnt, more of a deep caramelised burnt.

However, the wee boy was convinced we could still make a crumble, so, we popped a little crumble topping onto the fruit, and placed the dish in the oven.  Our oven still isn’t working although it does have a little flame that flickers away, so we left the crumble in the oven and went upstairs for a bath.

An hour or so later, having temporarily forgotten about the crumble, we opened the oven door to find that it was still mildly warm, although the topping bared a striking resemblance to a foodstuff suffering from anaemia.

Not to be dissuaded, we placed the dish under a medium heated grill and let it crisp up.

Having done the best we could under the circumstances, we served up our toasted crumble with a splash of milk and tucked in.

Amazingly it was quite delicious, and just goes to show you how, with a little ingenuity, some things really are worth saving.
